Heatstroke

Summer is here, and a ton of physical discomfort comes with it. This is the case of the infamous heatstroke, result of being exposed to high temperatures for long periods of time or exposure to physical exertion during those hot hours of the day. Heatstroke makes your body reach 40 C (104 F) degrees and you will need treatment immediately because one of these deadly heatstroke can damage your brain, heart, kidneys and muscles. Furthermore, if the treatment is delayed, we would be talking about risk of death.

Heatstroke has very distinct symptoms: high body temperature of 40 C/104 F or higher, altered mental state (confusion, agitation, delirium or seizures), nausea, vomiting, flushed skin, rapid breathing and headache. Beside all of these, one of the signs that indicate that you are having a heatstroke is no sweat. In this case, skin is very dry even though you are extremely hot. When you sweat, your body cools down, but, if you are very hot and you are not sweating, you may be experiencing heatstroke. If this is the case, please, seek medical attention immediately. If it is too late for someone having heatstroke, the best thing to do is cool them down by getting them into shade or indoors, removing excess clothing or giving them a cool shower.

From E&S Doctors, we aske you to keep yourself safe during summer. Especially, if you are going to be exposed to the sun or outdoors for long periods of time. Hydrate yourself constantly and get into shade if possible.
