Adenomyosis occurs when the tissue that lines the uterus grows into the muscular walls of the uterus. The tissue breaks down and bleeds during menstrual cycle. Causes of this disease are unknown, but usually resolves after menopause. Furthermore, hormonal treatments help and removal of the uterus cures it completely.
Sometimes, adenomyosis causes no symptoms or mild discomfort only. Nevertheless, it has some common symptoms like heavy and prolonged menstrual bleeding, severe cramping, chronic pelvic pain or painful intercourse. Childbirth is also considered a risk factor and this disease affects mostly women in their 40s or 50s. Usually, it is not that serious. However, E&S Doctors invites you to visit our clinic if the excessive bleeding or the cramps during your period interfere with your regular activities.
