Behcet’s Disease

Behcet’s disease is a rare disorder that causes blood vessel inflammation throughout your body. It does not have a cure, but there are several treatments involving medications to help preventing symptoms and serious complications, such as blindness. Researchers associate a virus or bacterium to this disease, but believe that it is not possible to be affected if you do not have certain genes that make you susceptible to Behcet’s syndrome.

Symptoms vary from person to person and can come and go over time. They also depend on which parts of your body are affected, but the most common ones are: recurrent mouth sores that heal in about three weeks, painful nodules on your skin (most commonly on your legs), open sores on genitals that are extremely painful, inflammation in the eye that causes blurred vision (the most common of them all), joint swelling and inflammation in veins and arteries, abdominal pain, diarrheal, headaches, disorientation and poor balance among many others. Furthermore, this disease is very serious and can decrease your vision. If you think that you have any of these symptoms, please visit your doctor immediately. From E&S Doctors, we encourage you to visit us if you think you suffer from Behcet’s disease.
