Behcet’s disease is a rare disorder that causes blood vessel inflammation throughout your body. It does not have a cure, but there are several treatments involving medications to help preventing symptoms and serious complications, such as blindness. Researchers associate a virus or bacterium to this disease, but believe that it is not possible to be affected if you do not have certain genes that make you susceptible to Behcet’s syndrome.

Symptoms vary from person to person and can come and go over time. They also depend on which parts of your body are affected, but the most common ones are: recurrent mouth sores that heal in about three weeks, painful nodules on your skin (most commonly on your legs), open sores on genitals that are extremely painful, inflammation in the eye that causes blurred vision (the most common of them all), joint swelling and inflammation in veins and arteries, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headaches, disorientation and poor balance among many others. La enfermedad de Behcet es un trastorno raro que causa la inflamación de los vasos sanguíneos del cuerpo. No tiene cura, pero hay tratamientos a base de medicamentos que ayudan a prevenir los síntomas y las complicaciones graves, como la ceguera. Los investigadores asocian esta enfermedad a un virus o bacteria, pero consideran que no se puede dar si las personas a las que afecta no tienen ciertos genes que las hacen propensas a padecer el síndrome de Behcet.

Los síntomas varían según la persona y pueden aparecer o desaparecer con el tiempo. También dependen de la parte del cuerpo afectada, pero los más comunes son las llagas recurrentes en la boca que se curan en unas tres semanas, nódulos dolorosos en la piel (sobre todo, en las piernas), llagas abiertas en los genitales que son muy dolorosas, inflamación de ojos que causa visión borrosa (esto es lo más recurrente), inflamación de las articulaciones y venas, dolor abdominal, diarrea, dolor de cabeza, desorientación y falta de equilibrio entre otros.
